The Supreme Council of the Order of the Knights of Rizal conferred the Distinguished Service Medal on Sir Mark Andrew Hernandez, KR DSM, on Saturday, 31 May 2025, during a Special Knighting and Awarding Ceremony held at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Embassy in The Netherlands.

The medal was presented by Sir Alexander Onia, KGOR, Area Commander of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, in the presence of distinguished leaders of the Order: His Excellency Ambassador Sir J. Eduardo Malaya, KGOR, Sir Albert Arevalo, KGCR, European Regional Commander; Sir Lino Paras, KGCR, Immediate Past European Regional Commander; and Sir Toni Guansing, KGCR, former European Regional Commander.

Sir Mark was recognised for his exceptional dedication and leadership in organising and participating at the 500km Cyclist Challenge – A Bike Ride for A Cause, a charitable cycling initiative by PINCH (Pinoy Cycling Club in Holland). The challenge successfully raised funds to support the Missionaries of the Poor in Opening the Little Lamb Center (Lilac) – The First and Only Permanent Residential Orphanage Facility in Cebu that caters exclusively to children with multile disabilities.

“I’m truly honored and humbled to receive this award. What began as a simple passion for cycling turned into something much greater—a way to give back, to raise awareness, and to support the community we all care about,” said Sir Mark. He further added, “This recognition is not just for me, but for every person who believed in the cause, donated, rode alongside, or helped spread the word. It’s a reminder that when we combine purpose with action, even small efforts can create lasting impact.”
